Ushers AND Greeters serve as the smiling face of the parish that welcomes you to celebrate Mass or any other respective church function. They help us create a worshipping atmosphere that is welcoming, friendly, orderly - they reflect our parish community!
Usually, ushers and greeters arrive 20 minutes early in order to greet those arriving with a smile.
Greeters assist the parish community by unlocking / opening doors, welcoming all worshipers, directing worshipers to restrooms, and helping people find seating.
Greeters alert Ushers to those who may need assistance: elderly, handicapped, those with small children, too.
In addition to helping people find seats, Ushers often are the first to help with an emergency during Mass. They also pass out and collect offertory baskets among the faithful and carry it to the altar during the offertory procession. They ask others to bring up the bread and the wine used for the Eucharistic sacrifice, too.
When Mass concludes, ushers secure the collection, tidy the pews and ready the sanctuary for those attending the next service. They often serve as the person who bids farewell to worshipers as they leave the church, handing them the weekly parish bulletin and wishing them a holy week!
Will you serve others as a parish usher? How about as a greeter?
