“This was the best day of my life, ever...”
Holy Name’s Social Concerns Ministry had a hugely successful “Get On The Bus” trip on Saturday, October 15th! Our bus left Holy Name of Jesus at 3:00 AM with 8 families, including 11 children, for a 5-hour drive to the California Men’s Colony (prison) in San Luis Obispo. We also stopped at Sacred Heart in Covina to pick up 5 more families. After clearing security, the kids got to spend several hours with their fathers - playing games, sharing a pizza lunch, telling stories, and generally having a wonderful time. Most of the kids hadn’t visited their fathers in several years; for some it was their very first time. As we boarded the bus back to Redlands, one teenage girl shared, “This was the best day of my life, ever.” The long bus ride home was emotional for everyone, but printed photos of the kids with their fathers, teddy bears, and lots of food provided comfort. We also gifted the kids with stationery supplies so they can keep in touch with their fathers.
Thank you, Holy Name of Jesus, for supporting this trip - the first one since 2019 because of COVID restrictions!
Your support transformed these families; and we look forward to serving more families with our next bus trip in Spring 2024.
