Preparation for the sacrament of Confirmation is a 3 year program beginning in the freshman year of high school. To receive the sacrament a teen must be 16 years old and be in high school. Below is a brief overview of the program requirements. Requirements: All Confirmation students must attend the scheduled classes & events of the program, complete 30 hours of community service (10 a year), attend given retreats, and complete required paperwork by given deadlines. Parents of those in the Confirmation Program are required to attend scheduled parent meetings, retreat, and day of reflection. Finally, before receiving the sacrament each student will indicate their desire to receive the sacrament through an interview conducted by either the Confirmation Coordinator, Director of Religious Education, Deacon or Priest. Sponsors: All students must choose a sponsor for Confirmation. A sponsor should be chosen as early in the program as possible so that they can part of the spiritual formation of the student. It is the role of the sponsor to provide spiritual support both before and after reception of the sacrament. In order to be a sponsor for Confirmation the sponsor must fulfill the conditions stated in Canon 874:
Sponsors are required to turn in completed paperwork, attend scheduled day of reflection with the candidate they are sponsoring as well as the rehearsal for the Confirmation Liturgy.
